Factoring Out The GCF
external image GCF.jpg

The GCF of a quadratic equation is the largest variable, number, or product of a number and variable that can go into each term

You use this method when the equation has numbers that have a common value

For Example: 3x2+6y The GCF is 3 because it is the largest number that each number can be divided by

3(x2+2y) Pull out the 3, and voila you have factored out the GCF

Example 2

4x2-8x+20 2 and 4 are two numbers that can go into each term, however, since 4 is the larger of the 2, 4 is the GCF

4(x2-2x+5) Pull out the 4, TA DA!!!
